Bamboleo
Bamboleo is one of the pioneering groups of
the Timba, the new incarnation
of the Cuban sound, a socio-cultural phenomenon integrating
new dance style, fashion and language with the Cuban culture,
expression of the new generation of Havana natives.
This conjunto of 14
performers is led by the pianist, composer and arranger Lazaro
Valdes. This Havana native studied at the Academia Alejandro
Garcia Caturla in the 70s’ from which he graduated and
then went on to work with other performers such as Pachito
Alonso, Bobby Carcasses and Héctor Tellez. Making the
decision to go his own way, in 1955 he got together with the
elite of Cuban musicians, many of them former students of
the National School of Arts in Havana, including the singers
Haila Mompie and Vannia Borges.
The band went on its first tour in 1996, promoting their first
record "Te gusto o te caigo bien". Since then, they
haven’t stopped touring, especially around the U.S.,
Europe and Japan. Bamboleo also participated in the Grammy
winning record "Ear-Resistible", by the Temptations,
it participated in the "Road Rules" program on MTV
and worked with performers such as James Brown, Femi Kuti
