Charlie Palmieri
Eddie
Palmieri’s older brother and pianist just as talented
as his younger brother, was born in New York in 1927. He began
his musical studies when he was 7 years old and after studying
at the Julliard School of Music he became a professional musician
at the age of 16. Toward the end of the 40s’ he joined
the orchestras of musicians such as Tito
Puente, Tito Rodríguez and Pupi Campo, before forming
the Charanga Duboney in 1958.
In 1969 he suffered a nervous breakdown, from which he recovered
to work on the television show "El Mambo de Tito Puente",
besides discovering a second career as a historian and as
a teacher of Latin Music and History in various New York schools.
In 1983 he suffered a heart attack while returning to New
York from Puerto Rico, where he had been living for three
years. After his recovery he led various Latin combos
until his death in 1988, shortly after his first visit to
England.
