El Gran Combo
Led by pianist and musical director Rafael
Ithier, El Gran Combo is one the best dance music groups
in Puerto Rico, with more than four decades of work to their
name. Named "Ambassadors of our music" by the Puerto
Rican Senate, this band was formed by Ithier in 1962 with
some of his co-musicians from the popular Cortijo and his
Combo.
Since then this group has not stopped playing, releasing records
and touring the world. Many of the members have changed along
the way, with only Ithier and the saxophonist Eddie Pérez
being original members.
