Isaac Delgado
One of the main Timba
figures, Isaac Felipe Delgado Ramírez was born on September
11, 1962 in Havana. With his father being a tailor and his
mother an actress and singer, he began studying the cello
at the age of 10, but gave this up to join the Escuela de
Iniciación Deportiva (a sports development school)
to focus on another of his great passions, namely soccer.
When starting out his studies at university to obtain a degree
in Sport Science, he was called upon by virtuoso pianist Gonzalo
Rubalcaba to join a band called "Proyecto",
which modernized popular Cuban music. Delgado then decided
to study vocal technique with Mariana de Gonich and sign up
for the Ignacio Cervantes Music School.
After some years as an amateur musician, he began his professional
career in 1983 as a member of the Pacho Alonso Orquestra,
whith which he toured the world. In 1988 he joined NG
La Banda as lead singer, making him very popular. At the
same time, he worked on his solo career, forming his own band
in 1991, which is still successful to this day.
