Jimmy Bosch
An expressive playing style, marked by brilliant
melodies and moving rhythms, has made Jimmy Bosch one of the
leading trombonists in contemporary Latin music. Known in
Latin communities as "El Trombón Criollo"
(the Creole Trombone), Bosch who was born in New Jersey, has
strengthened the music of successful Latin music groups such
as Rubén Blades
y Son del Solar, Mark Anthony, Eddie
Palmieri, Perfecta Combinación, Manny
Oquendo y Libre, Cachao,
Celia Cruz, La
india and Ray Barretto. Bocsh has led his own group, Los
Masters, since 1996.
Bosch was one of 11 brothers of a poor family, and began playing
the trombone at school at age 11. Two years later he debuted
professionally with a merengue
band based in Hoboken. In 1978 he enrolled in the Classical
Music Department at Rutgers University and became a member
of the influential salsa band, Manny Oquendo y Libre.
He continues performing and recording with the group occasionally.
Bosch’s album debut as leader of a band, Soneando Trombón,
is privileged to have guest artists such as legendary Cuban
trombonist, Chocolate Armenteros, and vocalist Pete Rodríguez.
Salsa Dura followed in 1999.
