Joe Cuba
Joe Cuba’s musical career began with
La Alfarona X in 1950. In 1955 the Joe Cuba sexteto
was born and his vibraphone sound caught on. In 1962, when
the group recorded "To be with you" for Seeco Records,
the band began gaining popularity with Nick Jiménez’s
arrangements and with the voices of Cheo
Feliciano and Jimmy Sabater.
When the boogaloo era
exploded, most of New York’s popular bands were left
without work. Joe Cuba’s sound changed with recordings
of "El Pito" and "Bang Bang"; he not only
sold millions of copies, but also allowed Cuba’s sexteto
enjoy the number 1 spot in the Latin music world along with
Eddie Palmieri’s
orchestra.
