Raulín Rosendo
The New York-based Dominican sonero
and salsa star, Raulín Rosendo, was born in Santo Domingo
on August 30, 1957. Influenced by rhythms of Afro-Antillean
music during his childhood, he began his career at the age
of 12 as member of a merengue
group, El chivo y su banda, which would later appear with
performances including Fernandito Villalona, Conjunto Clásico
and Los Vecinos.
Known as "El sonero enfadado" (The Angry Sonero),
Rosendo made his solo debut with "Salsa, Solamente Salsa"
in 1991; in 1993 he was recording his hits "Amor en secreto"
and "Santo Domingo" in New York with producer Ricky
González. The success of his following albums, including
"¡Lo Máximo!", "Dominicano para
el mundo" in 1996, ¡Contrólate!" in
1997, and "Llegó la ley" in 1998, put him
among the greatest salsa musicians of his time. "Donde
me coja la noche" would follow in 1999.
