Danzón dancersDanzón o Danzonete
The French contradanse entered Cuba on various fronts during the 18th Century: on English ships to Havana, in the Oriente (East) it arrived through the French colonists fleeing chaotic Haiti. With the black Cuban musicians’ influence, the contradanse became a half-breed, thus giving birth to the contradanza, whose music was called danzón. Today, the danzón is enjoyed in its stylistic descendents: the chachachá, the mambo, and the ritmo nuevo.

Dengue
Musical style derived from the mambo, created by Dámaso Pérez Prado in the early 60’s.

Descarga
Jam session. Musicians gathering to play music, leaving a most of time available for improvisation. It is due to jazz and its fascination with improvisation that this form of playing penetrates Latin music, called descarga (release) because of Cuban double bass player Israel "Cachao" López's war cry.

Despelote!
(who changes it to "¡Sofocación!"), Pachito Alonso y sus Kini Kini, Manolito y su Trabuco, etc.
